Overview

Fish Face Bar & Grill stands as a compelling choice for seafood lovers visiting Balgowlah, NSW. Nestled within the bustling Condamine Street shopping precinct, this restaurant offers an inviting environment blending casual dining with quality seafood fare. Its location benefits from easy access and ample parking, making it an ideal spot for locals and visitors alike.

The kitchen impresses with a focus on fresh, well-prepared dishes that truly showcase the flavors of the sea. The standout mains, such as the whole snapper and the grilled barramundi, demonstrate expert seasoning and thoughtful cooking techniques. These dishes cater both to those seeking gluten-free options and families looking for familiar, comforting meals. The children’s menu thoughtfully includes grilled fish accompanied by fresh fruit and vanilla ice cream, making it a welcoming choice for families.

Beyond the mains, the menu offers a selection of sides that complement the seafood perfectly. The Greek and mixed leaf salads bring refreshing, light balance to the richness of the grilled fish, while the signature chips remain a popular choice—crispy and satisfying. The dessert offerings feature creative touches with items like the passionfruit mousse and the vanilla and coconut panna cotta, the latter receiving mixed feedback for texture but praised for its tropical flavors.

Ambiance inside the venue leans toward a darker, intimate setting which some might find cozy, although it hints at untapped potential for brighter, more lively atmospheres. Service experiences vary; several diners appreciated friendly and attentive staff, with special mentions of thoughtful gestures like providing outdoor heaters on chilly days, while others noted moments where the service could feel less welcoming.

Fish Face Bar & Grill’s credentials extend beyond just its food and service. It appeals broadly to seafood enthusiasts, families, and casual diners who value quality meals in a relaxed setting. Its proximity to local shopping and the provision of family-friendly options help position it as a community staple for both weekday lunches and leisurely weekend dinners.

In sum, Fish Face Bar & Grill strikes a solid balance between quality seafood offerings, accommodating service, and a convenient location. While some improvements could elevate the overall dining experience, it remains a notable destination for those craving fresh, genuine seafood in the heart of Balgowlah.

Good experience overall, a bit overpriced based on other experiences nearby. The food was alright, the main dishes were good but the entree we got wasn’t as expected. Ceviche was just with lime zest but not juice at all. Not bad, but it’s supposed to be there. Ambiance was a bit dark inside, has lot more of potential.

Wonderful, fresh seafood and loved that the (free!) kids’ meals came with lovely grilled fish, watermelon and ice cream - such a nice touch! The only downside was the service, which felt a little off. Staff didn’t seem particularly welcoming, which was a shame given how great everything else was. Otherwise, an excellent experience.

This place is not bad, the service is good staff were friendly. The food was good, the fish were nice and crispy. Their Panna cotta however was average though, it was a bit dry in my opinion. It has pistachio and mango bits which was nice but I don't think the dry coconut should be in it. But that's just me

Genuinely brilliant. The best cooked meal I've had in as long as I can remember. Excellent value for money given the quality of the food. I had the whole snapper, my partner had the (gluten free) fish and chips. Everything was well seasoned, well cooked and generous in portion size. I think we've just found our new favourite restaurant & we can't wait to go back.

Came here for lunch a few weeks back on a nice, quiet Sunday afternoon. The food was great and the staff were friendly too. Also, we sat outside but even though it was a chilly day, the waitress kindly brought out the heater, which was nice and warm. I had the grilled barramundi with fries, which was amazing. Also ordered a take away hot chocolate, which was also delicious. Located in the Balgowlah shopping centre precinct, this is a must visit for everyone. There’s also 3 hours free parking too.

Had a great time here, the BYO is a plus. They have lots of offers on throughout the week & have 50% off on the last Sunday of the month. Food was good, the signature fries are 10/10, but I would avoid the baby octopus entrée as they were quite rubbery and flavourless. We also got the large prawn hotpot - this came with 7 prawns with nice flavour although sauce was a bit runny; the steak frites - nice cook on the steak, fries were the star of the show; and lobster rolls - great filling ratio and nice flavour. Would definitely return when theres offers available. All of this for $55 is fantastic for a Sunday lunch!

Friendly staff, delicious food. I have been twice now, once for dinner and once for lunch. The first visit I will admit I didn’t love everything. Our chips were very overcooked as were the churros (almost inedible as so hard), but we loved the prawn and crab pasta, perfectly cooked fish and the prawn and snapper pie is delicious, albeit a tad on the small size, especially for the price. I vowed to come back and try some other things on the menu, and am glad I did, round two for lunch was brilliant. Cocktails again, yum, the entree garlic prawns is a super generous serve, 7 large prawns in such a tasty sauce of garlic and chilli with bread to soak up the remnants. For main, we had whole lemon sole, which again, was a winner ! The cos and fennel salad is a perfect balance, and the chips cooked so much better. We also had the special Barra “wings” which were SO good! It’s a beautiful place to eat, the staff are super nice and friendly… just need some consistency with food quality and perhaps a larger pie and I think this is a winner.
